The Votes are in…Edmonton’s biggest summer Fair is now K-Days!
EDMONTON, AB – The votes are in and the community has voted overwhelmingly for K-Days as the new[...]
As a community service based organization, Northlands continuously reinvests back into the community. We use our expertise, events, and venues to enhance our community’s quality of life. Northlands strives to make the Capital Region and Northern Alberta a better place to live, work and do business.
Below are a few of the ways that Northlands supports the community through Capital EX:
Lotteries
Thank you to everyone who supported the Capital EX Lottery. Over the last two years, Northlands has made every effort to make the Capital EX Lottery a success. With losses over the last two years, we are unable to continue the lottery due to increasing competition in the lottery market and a changing economy. However, Northlands, as a not for profit organization will continue to support our community. We are excited to announce that this year Northlands has donated 15,000 Capital EX Gate Admissions valued at $150,000 to Kids Up Front, a not-for-profit organization that helps underprivileged youth and their families by providing tickets to various arts, sports and entertainment events. Deserving kids in the Edmonton area will have the chance to experience Edmonton’s greatest summer fair!
Monday Morning Magic at Capital EX
In partnership with North American Midway Entertainment, Monday Morning Magic was created specifically for children aged 3 to 12 years with disabilities. They are given the opportunity to enjoy Capital EX and the midway in a safe and controlled environment with FREE rides, bagged lunch and special entertainment without the large crowds. The morning before the fair opens its doors to the public, these special guests are the first to ride the midway attractions. This free community event has put lasting smiles on the faces of children with disabilities for over 33 years.
Kids Up Front
As part of Northlands community investment, tickets are donated from many events held on our nearly 160 acre campus to Kids Up Front Edmonton. Kids Up Front is a fantastic community service organization with a mission of making a difference, one ticket at a time. In 2011, Northlands helped create tomorrow’s memories everyday by providing over 18,750 event tickets and gate admission passes to Kids Up Front Edmonton. Tickets provided by Northlands are distributed to their 160 partner agencies and go to children and families that are disadvantaged in our community.
Northlands is proud to be involved as a donor to Kids Up Front, a not-for-profit organization that helps underprivileged youth and their families by providing tickets to various arts, sports and entertainment events. Since their inception in 2003, Kids Up Front has provided $5.8 million in tickets to deserving kids in Edmonton alone. For this year’s Capital EX, Northlands is excited to announce that they have donated 15,000 Capital EX Gate Admissions, valued at $150,000, to Kids Up Front. Deserving kids in the Edmonton area will have the chance to experience Cranked up Music and Pumped up Fun at Edmonton’s greatest summer fair!
United Way
Northlands is a key contributor and leader in the Capital region’s United Way campaign. Northlands support of the United Way includes the Capital EX Parade Flag program, Be Seen in Jeans program, sponsorship of the Red Tie Gala and an internal campaign where funds are raised and donated to the organization.
Make A Wish Northern Alberta
Each year, Northlands is committed to sponsoring the wish of one child. The Northlands “wish child” also has the opportunity to attend a multitude of events, which include Capital EX, Canadian Finals Rodeo and concerts etc..
Northern Star Talent Search
The program aids in the discovery and development of amateur talent throughout northern and central Alberta. Most importantly, it provides an opportunity for amateur artists to showcase their talent. Since its introduction to Capital EX in 1986, the Northern Star Talent Search program has had the distinction of sending some of the finest talent to the Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions (CAFÉ) Canadian Youth Talent Competition Finals.
Rib Fest
Come down to Rib Fest at Capital EX – where the food not only tastes good, it’s good for the community too! Capital EX is proud to partner each of our five world-class ribbers with a community organization. We are thrilled to announce that Boys & Girls Big Brothers Big Sisters, Kids Up Front, Junior Achievement, 4-H Alberta Foundation and the Edmonton Food Bank will be part of the western fun at Rib Fest. For partnering with Rib Fest, each charitable organization will receive 500 dollars. In the spirit of friendly competition, each ribber will be competing for the title of “Peoples Choice” as they dish up these meaty favourites to hungry fair goers. The winning ribber not only received bragging rights, but 1000 dollars to donate to their partnered charity!
Kiwanis
Northlands is proud to support Kiwanis, a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Through the operation of the giant slide at Capital EX, Kiwanis is able to generate funds that help them achieve their mission and make a difference in the lives of children.
