Show Your Star Power!
If you love to sing, dance, play an instrument or put on a variety act, show your star power during Alberta’s largest talent competition supporting Alberta youth.
Produced by Northlands, Northern Star Talent Search is open to amateur talent between ages 5 and 21. Advancing semi-finalists and finalists perform during Edmonton’s Capital EX and have the chance to compete in the 2010 Canadian Youth Talent Competition in Calgary, Alberta, hosted by the Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions.
Complete an entry form and then submit your audition via video entry or attend an open audition at West Edmonton Mall.
Open Auditions Dates
Choose ONE of the following days to attend — May 15, 16, 22 or 23
Note: Northlands will be assembling a professional stage (able to audition dancers) at West Edmonton Mall, Phase III, main floor (near Chapters & HMV). Performers must register at 9 AM with auditions starting at 10 AM.
Video Entry
Electronic video entries posted on YouTube or the submission of an amateur video entry in VHS or DVD format.
All video entries are to be:
- Recorded within the last 12 months
- Use a new VHS or DVD
- Film in a well lit area
- Ensure background music doesn’t drown out vocal performance
- Watch the video prior to submission
- Cue entries to the start of your performance before submitting the video
- No audio enhancements are allowed.

The winners of Northern Star Talent Search, Youth Division (ages 13 to 21), at Edmonton’s Capital EX 2010 will receive:

Scholarships
Colin Forbes Memorial Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a Northern Star Talent Search semifinalist studying in the field of music, fine art, vocal, dance or drama at an accredited post-secondary institution. It is offered in fond memory of former Northlands General Manager Colin Forbes, a proprietor of the arts and a great supporter of the program, and is donated by Northlands.
Marcella Merrigan Memorial Scholarships
One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a junior division finalist (ages 9-12), and one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a youth division semifinalist (ages 13-21) of Edmonton’s Capital EX Northern Star Talent Search competition. The scholarship is offered in memory of Marcella Merrigan, a loving mother and dedicated nurse who found great joy from the performing talents of the children who graced her life.
