Pumped up fun for the whole family!

Family entertainment will create musical memories at Capital EX

EDMONTON, AB – Crank up the music and pump up the family fun at Capital EX. This year will feature animals, music and the opportunity to see your favourite TV characters come to life on stage!

For the mini music-moguls, Capital EX will showcase a TELUS Stage Children’s Concert Series line-up that is sure to keep even the tiniest of rockers jamming! Capital EX is proud to welcome Strawberry Shortcake’s Musical Playdate, Thomas and Friends, Dorothy the Dinosaur and Friends, and Caillou’s Musical Playdate presented in part by 96.3 Capital FM.

Hall C in the Edmonton EXPO Centre will be transformed into Family Fun Town presented by Encana with exciting activities and musical performers. Creative kids can be a farmer for a day at The Farm or be a builder in the Construction Zone presented by Totem Building Supplies. Bixby’s Rainforest Rescue brings the excitement of conservation, preservation and going green to Capital EX! Join Iago on the adventure of a lifetime as he tries to save the rainforest. If your family has the music in them, check out the music stage in Family Fun Town. Singing his popular tune, “The Cat Came Back” Fred Penner will delight the young and the young at heart. Returning this year is everyone’s favourite duo, Splash N’ Boots! Sing along to their infectious melodies as they bring their passion and talent for music to Capital EX.

While walking the grounds, be sure to watch for our brand-new strolling performers: Bandaloni and Trinican Steel Drum Orchestra who are guaranteed to put the music in you! Also at this year’s fair, your favourite intergalactic ambassador of goodwill is back! Rock It the Robot will be at Capital EX 2012 to walk, talk and rock with all of the earthlings he meets.

Enjoy even more family fun at Northlands Park! In addition to live thoroughbred racing, on July 22 and July 29, guests can enjoy a family picnic complete with activities for the kids including face painting, clowns, an equine educational booth, arts, crafts, prizes and more!

Strolling Performers
Bandaloni is an amazing, 100 per cent live musical one-man band show that is good fun for people of all ages. A One Man Band? That means guitar, harmonica and singing plus a kick drum, high-hat, snare drum, tambourine, even live harmonies…all performed at the same time! Bandaloni draws from a deep well of classic songs spanning all musical genres with an emphasis on Rock & Roll and Country. Combined with humour and astounding novelty tricks, this show requires a lot of audience participation and enjoyment!

Let’s welcome back Rock-It the Robot to Capital EX. He talks, walks and rocks! Come chat, dance and sing with Rock-It the Robot who can shake, rattle and roll with the best of them! Rock-It is the ultimate galactic ambassador of goodwill whose mission is to greet and mingle with as many earthlings as possible! Rock-It is everyone’s favourite dance partner and will love to serenade you with music selections from country, hip-hop to pop.

Enjoy the sounds of the islands while strolling around Capital EX! Formed in Edmonton in 1982, Trinican Steel Pan Orchestra aims to promote Steelband music in Edmonton. Although we are far from the tropics, Capital EX will bring them to you with Trinican Steel Orchestra!

Family Fun Town is located in Hall C inside the Edmonton EXPO Centre. This fun-filled hall is the perfect place to bring your children to check out the interactive and exciting components of Capital EX. There is a lot to learn in Family Fun Town, so be sure to make some time to explore! Come and check out the exciting entertainment line-up inside Family Fun Town, including:

Enjoy special appearances by live rainforest animals, live stage shows, crafts and interactive play in Bixby’s Inflatable Rainforest Fun Center.

Join acclaimed family entertainer Fred Penner in his energetic live show at Family Fun Town! The two-time Juno winner for Best Children’s Album Sing with Fred sings and tells stories with an undeniable ability to make you feel good about yourself. Dubbed “Mr. Multi-Media” by Billboard magazine, Fred Penner is not to be missed at this year’s Capital EX!

Sing along to the infectious melodies of one of the best children’s music groups: Splash’N Boots. This cutting-edge duo recently achieved a major career milestone, gaining national exposure on Treehouse TV for their music video “For the Love of Dance”. Experience the genuine talent and passion that Splash’N Boots brings to children’s entertainment at Capital EX!

The Farm at Family Fun Town welcomed by Encana
Have the chance to be a farmer for the day and learn all about agriculture at The Farm located within the Family Fun Town! Gain hands-on educational experience in barns, gardens and tractor pits while participating in activities such as calf roping, cow milking and potato planting. Before departing the farm, you will visit a Save-On-Foods grocery store to learn about how these activities and animals contribute to the foods you see on their plates. On your way out of The Farm, have the chance to purchase dairy products in support of the Children’s Agriculture Fund at Moo Bar! The farm is an interactive experience for children 10 and under.

Put on your hard hats and become a builder for the day at the Construction Zone in Family Fun Town welcomed by Totem Builders! Children will have the chance to learn all about construction and building while using their imaginations to create life-size structures out of colourful blocks!

TELUS Stage Children’s Acts presented in part by 96.3 Capital FM
Dorothy the Dinosaur and Friends invite you to share in their brand new live show propelled by fun, beautiful music and dancing! Join Dorothy the Dinosaur along with her friends Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog and Henry the Octopus while they bring the Wiggles hits to the stage in this fun-filled show. The dancing will be delightful and of course the music will be rosalicious!

Enter a world of imagination through the train tracks with Thomas the Tank Engine, star of Thomas & Friends at Capital EX! You will have plenty of chances to sing along to the wonderful songs and music of Thomas & Friends. This new live show features a fantastic new Thomas set and plenty of audience participation. With a little help from the audience, Thomas is sure to remain a ‘really useful engine’!

Get ready for a celebration of music with Strawberry Shortcake and friends in Strawberry Shortcake’s Musical Playdate. Enjoy songs from a variety of genres as the characters teach wholesome values and prove that all little girls can do ‘berry’ big things! Come sing and dance to brand new tunes that emphasize the importance of friendship, teamwork and most of all – fun!

Caillou is a typical four –year-old who never stops learning! In Caillou’s Musical Playdate, Caillou discovers that no matter what the weather brings, there is always a great adventure waiting outdoors.
